If you’ve dug into a Stallings yard during the summer, you know the problem. That red clay bakes hard as brick under the summer sun, then turns into standing water the second a storm rolls through. It’s the same story from Stevens Mill Road to the subdivisions off Lawyers Road, and it’s not something a truckload of topsoil fixes.
LG Landscaping doesn’t cut corners on what’s underneath your lawn. We start with the soil itself — testing compaction, checking drainage patterns, and building a real plan before anything goes in the ground. That means proper aeration, organic soil amendments worked into the clay, and grading that actually moves water away from your foundation instead of pooling next to it.
Homes along US-74 and throughout western Union County deal with the same dense clay base. We’ve built our process around it. You get a landscape that holds up through the heat and the humidity, not one that needs to be redone in two years.
From residential projects to commercial developments, we provide end-to-end solutions for every stage of construction.
We run every installation through the same four steps, no shortcuts.
Site Consultation & Grading Analysis:
We walk your property and check slope, soil compaction, and where water actually runs during a heavy rain. This tells us what your yard needs before we touch a shovel.
Soil Amending & Sub-Base Preparation:
Union County clay doesn’t let roots breathe on its own. We till in compost and sand to loosen it up, so new plants and sod have a real chance to establish.
Hardscape & Softscape Execution:
Pavers, retaining walls, sod, trees, and shrubs go in with precision. Every hardscape element sits on a properly compacted base built for our soil conditions, not a generic install.
Irrigation & Final Walkthrough:
We set up zone-based watering so new plantings survive the transition into summer heat, then walk the finished property with you to confirm everything meets spec.
This process holds up whether you’re in Callonwood, Fairhaven, or anywhere else across Stallings and Union County.
Willowcroft Backyard Drainage & Patio Install: A Willowcroft homeowner was dealing with standing water after every storm. We regraded the rear yard, installed a French drain along the property line, and added a paver patio on a properly compacted base. Zero pooling since, even through peak summer downpours.
Courtyards on Lawyers Road Full Landscape Renovation: This property near Lawyers Road had compacted clay killing every attempt at a lawn. We amended the soil, laid Zoysia sod, and added native planting beds along the foundation. The lawn established within weeks and has held color through the summer heat.

We regrade the site and install French drains or catch basins first. Drainage always goes in before planting, so water moves away from your home instead of collecting.
Bermuda and Zoysia handle full sun and summer dry spells well. For planting beds, we lean on heat-tolerant native species that need minimal extra watering once established.
Larger grading projects, retaining walls over a certain height, and some hardscape work often need permits. We handle the permitting process for you before work starts.
We typically till compost and sand 8 to 12 inches deep. That’s enough to break up compaction and give roots room to spread without hitting a hard clay wall.
Some subdivisions do have HOA guidelines on fencing, hardscape materials, or plant heights. We check with your HOA before finalizing design so there are no surprises later.
